Tabletop Epoxy Calculator

Enter the size of your tabletop or bar top and the thickness of the coat. The calculator gives the volume of epoxy to mix, including an allowance for drips and waste.

How the calculation works

Volume = length × width × thickness × (1 + waste %)

With inches, the result is in cubic inches (231 cubic inches per US gallon). With centimetres and millimetres, the thickness is converted to centimetres first and the result is in cubic centimetres (1,000 per litre).

Example: 48 in × 24 in × 0.125 in = 144 cubic inches. With 15% waste that is 165.6 cubic inches, or about 0.72 US gallons.

Frequently asked questions

How much epoxy do I need for a tabletop?

Multiply length by width by the coat thickness. A 24 in by 48 in table with a 1/8 in flood coat needs 144 cubic inches, which is about 0.62 US gallons. Add 10% or more for waste and edge drips.

How thick should a flood coat be?

Most tabletop and bar top epoxies are designed for coats of roughly 1/16 to 1/8 inch (about 1.5 to 3 mm). Thicker coats need a deep pour product or several layers. Check the data sheet for your resin.

Do I need extra epoxy for the edges?

Yes. If the resin runs over the edges, a lot of it drips off. Add 10 to 20% extra, or tape and seal the edges if you do not want it to drip.

How much area does one gallon cover?

At 1/8 inch thick, one US gallon (231 cubic inches) covers about 12.8 square feet. At 1/16 inch it covers about 25.7 square feet. Use the epoxy coverage calculator to try other thicknesses.
